Winter Activities in Iceland

There are so many incredible winter activities in Iceland! I ended up losing a couple days due to a weather storm, and therefore missed out on Silfra Diving and Glacier Hiking, but I wanted to write about the different options for those interested in checking them all out.
This is about a five hour journey from Reykjavik, which if you are renting a car, I would highly suggest breaking down into two days, since there are so many amazing sights along the way (see other blog post). Unfortunately, the cave was pretty crowded with other tours when we got there, but it was still worth it just for the views along the way. It does take 45 minutes to get to and from the cave, and it's a pretty bumpy ride, so if you're not good in cars, slash if you're hungover, maybe this isn't the tour for you! But if you are ready to see the breathtaking blue ice caves, ask for Sven! Not only was he fun and super knowledgeable, he was in Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings...pretty cool.
Snorkeling/diving between two continents? Count me in. I will definitely be keeping this on my bucket list. Click above for more details! Arctic Adventures comes highly recommended.
If you love being outdoors and want to work off all that incredible food you've been eating, try Glacier Hiking! I was really excited to try this, because the thought of climbing up ice scared the crap out of me. And I wanted to face that fear. But you do NOT have to do this portion of the tour. You can just enjoy the walk and the scenery.
Note: I did not research this specific tour, nor did I go horseback riding, but I just wanted to let you know it's an option!
Do it for the Instagram, right?
You may be noticing that this link doesn't lead you to a tour but instead to an Aurora Forecast site. That's because the Northern Lights are NOT a guarantee when you're in Iceland, so do not plan your trip around them. Although they are spectacular, there are a lot of other wonderful things to see in Iceland. I spent weeks following the forecast and saw that there was a solar storm coming, so I took a chance, and lucked out three nights in a row! Absolute magic. I do hope anyone visiting (September-April) gets a chance to see them, but if not, you will still have an amazing time!
